Lobivia in Aquaculture

This specimen is most likely a Lobivia from my 1997 SuccSeed batch of seeds. I lost track of the seedlings sometime in 1998 so the identification is not positive. However, since Malaysian nurseries do not stock this particular species (Lobivia is not a popular genus) I think there is a good chance the identification is correct. The SuccSeed species name is Lobivia haematantha v. rebutioides.

The seeds were sown on 6 August 1997, so by the time of the first pictures in April 2001, it is about 3.5 years old. I took the picture because some animal or insect took a big piece out of it. It was only then that I realized that it could be one of my older seedlings.

Left: Two months later, the scar is healed and the plant has added an inch and grown much fatter. Right: Four months after the initial pictures, the plant has almost reached the 2" diameter of the cup.

Left: By the end of the year (December 2001), the Lobivia specimen has fully recovered and is growing very quickly.
