Ferocactus in aquaculture
This is my largest Ferocactus specimen. It was grown from Horti seeds, and is a few years old. It's probably a Ferocactus emoryi or something very much like it.

If kept clean, the Ferocactus plant will not have sooty mould on its areoles. As you can see in the pictures, the areoles of the plant is very clean. If you can keep the plant dry, clean and free of ants, then you will have a good chance of keeping the plant free of mould. Aquaculture is a much cleaner medium than traditional soil.
