Echinocereus Graft Page

These are two specimens of Echinocereus on Echinopsis. The Echinocereus graft does well on the Echinopsis stock, but since I have too many examples of both species, I regard this as simply an experiment and not really as display specimens.

There is however, one use for this combination -- as the bottom two tiers in a three-tier graft. One day, I might try four- or five-tier grafts.

Echinocereus on Echinocereus Grafts

The four pictures above show two grafts of Echinocereus on Echinocereus. This was another an experiment -- it's a 90-degree graft. The graft is inserted horizontally into a wedge-shaped cut in the stock plant.

A week after the operations (late June 2000). At this point, one cannot tell whether the graft is successful, since the vascular bundles may not have joined together.

Three weeks after the last set of pictures (in mid-July 2000), both the stock and the graft has grown for the two specimens. This appears to be a viable arrangement, opening the possibilities for wierd grafts.
