Stapelia Flowers Page 2

The first flower buds on the specimen in aquaculture appeared in early October 2000. There were three buds.

Stapelia gigantea buds are big and fat, and the colour is a shade lighter than the rest of the plant.

Five days later, a couple of flower buds tries to open, but the balmy weather foiled the plant's efforts. The flowers did not open properly.

When the flower buds are ready to open, they become very large (around 1" or more in diameter) and the colour becomes a very light green.

The pictures on this page varies in tone because of the use of flash and different lighting conditions. The last picture (above right) shows the plant in colours closest to that of the real-live plant outdoors.
